So, I made it home, got to my house about 12 hours after I left Mudd. Flights were fine, all went well. Except one rather odd incident at security. The following exchange did, in fact take place.

Security guy: "We're checking shoes today, miss."
me: "OK" ::starts taking off shoes::
Security guy: "How old are you?"
me: "19, 20, something like that." (definitely not sleep-depped, no siree)
Security guy: "Well, we're checking the shoes of everyone over twelve today."
me: ::blinks in astonishment, hands over shoes:: "All right then."

This all occuring just after I rode to the airport with Jeff talking about how glad I was my stuffed bear fit in my luggage, so I'd not be treated like a small child. Good grief. 12.

I am definitely back home. A few things really brought this to mind today.

* The guy at the connecting flight. When someone explained that they call seats by group numbers rather than rows, he kind of muttered, "well, _that's_ different," which in Minnesota-speak means bad/stupid/wrong/etc.

* Trees! There are beautiful trees as far as the eye can see. And big puffy clouds in the sky. And the river was all pretty and shiny. Everything is so green.

* Got first mosquito bite of the season.

* I can strike up conversations with the people next to me, and no one is surprised.

* Some people are out sitting on their porches, and others out walking around. (though I discovered a reason for the second)

Other stuff that happened today:

* Grandma and great aunt came to visit from Iowa.

* Much spoiling of prodigal daughter:
* Go out to eat at favorite restaurant
* Mother makes chocolate-mint cheesecake
* Get pile of stuff grandma has been saving for her
* Go to second half of drum and bugle corps field show with a grandma

* We buried my wonderful cat. He had died earlier in the spring, but we waited until I was home and the ground thawed to bury him. I really miss him. He was such an extraordinary cat.

* Got on line and connected w/outside world. I love my family. And Mudd and extended-Mudd folk, and Mathcamp people. Can I be 3 places at once? Please?
