Suppose HMC had class rings.

Eta: Apparently it does. Suppose for the purposes of this poll that lorimt were thinking about designing a HMC-styled rings, or East Dorm rings or something along those lines...



1) Would you get one?
- Yes
- No
- Maybe, depending on the ring's appearance
- Maybe, depending on other things

2) What style would you want
- Something subtle, or at least not gaudy
- Something distinctive, large-ish is OK
- I want those class rings like in high school. It should be shiny as all get out!
- I want something totally impractical lorimt came up with months ago, which might well break or look hideous, but is symbolic! (Note: my good plans don't fall into this category, but I've got several bad backup plans)


3) Which of these features matter to you?
- Price
- Looks
- Official HMC something or other, so I know other people will have them too
- Monkeys?
- Something else, mentioned in the comments

4) What else should I take into account?

Uh, HMC does have class rings. They sold them in the back of Platt every year. There were two styles, a flat oval with the HMC seal/symbol on it, and a regular class-ring looking thing.

Two thoughts:

1. A schwa on a ring just looks like an "e", and so is not very exciting.

2. The MIT ring has two main selling points: (a) it has a simple design which leads to an amusing and descriptive nickname, and (b) it doubles as a bottle opener.

1) This is true. I don't actually have any East-specific designs because of this.

2a) Does this mean you would like my Wally Wart based plan? (see totally impractical/ugly above)

More seriously, the MIT ring has all sorts of good things going for it, but duplication isn't the way to go.
