For [livejournal.com profile] quartzpebble, [livejournal.com profile] memnus, [livejournal.com profile] sithjawa and probably a decent number of other people on my friends list who like folk songs: lessons to be learned from folk songs / ballads, including the following pearls of wisdom:

"Avoid navigable waterways. Don’t let yourself be talked into going down by the wild rippling water, the wan water, the salt sea shore, the strand, the lowlands low, the Burning Thames, and any area where the grass grows green on the banks of some pool. Cliffs overlooking navigable waterways aren’t safe either."

"If you’re out hunting, make sure of your sight picture before you pull the trigger/loose your bow. Especially so if you’re near a navigable waterway or the greenwoodside."

Avoid situations where the obvious rhyme-word is “maidenhead.”

So, I happened to stop by Pandemoneum this evening and picked up a flyer for Arisia. Looks like the musical guest of honor is SJ Tucker. Sweet! But wait! Arisia is January 15-18 - the weekend of MLJ day. What else is that weekend? Mystery Hunt - as usual! Apparently Mystery Hunt and Arisia are the same weekend since time immemorial. It makes sense, in a way - it's the most reasonable time for each. But they draw on almost the *exact* same circles of people. ::mutter::

One of these days, I'll have to skip Hunt, but I was planning to go back to Sages this year, which would make skipping out sad. ::sigh::

Excessive emotion brought to you by too much sugar and not enough useful days in January.
