Update and luxuries
Dec. 16th, 2005 10:54 pmSo, for those of you that haven't heard yet, (namely all but my family and a small handful of Bostonians) I have a real, full-time job. Starting January 9 (assuming the paperwork goes through this time) I will be employed by MGH as a "Biostatistician Epidemiologist", which looks like it will mean "writes/documents code and analyzes data" for a geneticist building tools for other geneticists. This is a good combination of useful for me (why look, [grad school of choice], I may not have taken any genetics classes, but I had a real live job using the stuff) (Why yes, I would like to be paid to practice my coding skills and learn useful languages) and useful for them (why yes, I do know both statistics and biology and I have written computer programs before). I am excited.
As for the luxuries, I've had a small list on my whiteboard of stuff to get once gainfully employed. Top of said list was a chair for reading in. Now, with a combination of Christmas, Craigslist and Katy and Cal's car, I have a big red chair covered in blankets. Thanks to Catherine and Rob, I also have a small bookshelf/side-table sitting next to it. It is a marvelous setup, and makes my room much more lived-in looking. Now I just need to get my paintings to stay on the walls and I'll be set.
