I finally broke the "nothing on the page" barrier, and have written what will likely end up being the easiest 1/12 or so of my thesis. Huzzah! I see in my future many very dull LJ entries charting my progress through the rocky sea that is the T-word.
In other news, now that Super Movie Night has moved to April 23, 2005, I can devote almost all of this weekend to the ICT, or Interdisciplinary Competition in Thesis. So far, three teams of one each have expressed interest in joining this elite competition. Awards abound. For the highest rating, "Fully Written and Edited" a prize of lots of spare time, the admiration of one's peers and the chance to get more than one round of feedback from one's adviser will be offered. The next tier, to which many aspire, "Fully Written" a smaller prize of slightly less free time and a feeling of accomplishment is offered. Below that, we have "Successful Participant" for those who manage to get something down on paper, anything at all. In many ways, entering the competition is its own reward, never more than for those who start with nothing, and leave the process with a beginning to this document under their belt. In all cases, competitors will be considered for the large-prize second round, where even "Successful Participants" receive awards in a special "Graduation" ceremony.
Local competitors (Claremont, CA) are invited additionally to eat out this weekend, to encourage them to maintain their focus throughout the grueling weekend. The founder of the competition even goes so far as to offer money from the "Thomas fund" to go toward paying gas money so that these competitors can find a ride to nearby eating establishments.
